"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you."

A day as a Lifeguard

So changing subjects for today, here is a post about me lifeguarding! Enjoy!

I had a rather interesting Tuesday morning shift at 5:45. Boring yes, but I did have some action to it!

Now, that’s like the best thing ever when something happens cuz it gives me something to do.
Well let’s see, I got there a couple of minutes early just cuz the pool is always messy with toys and noodles and there is usually an extra lane line in. Of course it was hardly messy and no extra lane in of course. So I just sat around waiting till someone came in. I hate being in there by myself and couldn’t wait till someone came in. I don’t mind it during the day but when it’s still dark out, I just don’t like it. So finally about 6 people came in and they swam for awhile. The most that was swimming at a time was like 7. This one guy swims every week and he makes me soooooo nervous! He is a bigger guy and probly in his late 60’s.  He will push off the wall and then he will put his arms out and just float under water till he comes back up. He will blow all the air out of him cuz he sinks lower and then will finally come up. I’m so afraid he’s just going to keep sinking!

So, it got boring for awhile till this one older man came in. He was probly in his 80’s and short. Well he was swimming ok, but was making me nervous. He then started swimming backstroke and I thought he was going to drown. His feet kept sinking and then his face would go under. He would come up choking on the water and would either grab the side of the pool or stand in the shallow end. He did this for about 20 minutes and I was at the edge of my seat the whole time. He then swims half a lap and asks me if the 10 pound brick was around. I’m just staring at him trying not to look shocked. He’s like “can you throw it down in 12 feet for me.” I was just like, ok. So I did but made it close enough to the wall so it would be easier to save him if he couldn’t come back up. That’s  probly not even safe to do at his age cuz he would probly have a heart attack or something. Anyways, he swam down and was able to bring it back up but struggling. He then starts swimming with it on his back. I’m just thinking “what in the world is he doing. He can hardly swim backstroke without a brick adding weight to him.” So he starts and then he starts to go under. I jumped out of my chair and was at the side by him but he was able to grab the side just in time. I pretty much followed him back to the other side of the pool so he wouldn’t drown. He gave me a heart attack that’s for sure. Then he comes up to me with the brick and I asked him if he was done with it, praying he was. He’s like “yeah, I’m done. I just wanted to see if I could still grab it without drowning.” Hahahahaha I tried so hard not to laugh. I’m just thinking “without drowning? You practically did.”

Then this other guy was talking to me after finally taking a break from swimming for like an hour and a half. He’s like “has anyone said anything about losing a diamond of something?” I’m just like “no, not that i know of.” He’s like “when the sun shines on the bottom of the pool, this thing is shining really bright! It’s hard to see when going past it. “ I’m was just like ok. He then get’s back to swimming and then stops a few minutes later asking if I had tweezers or something so he could try and get it. I found some in the first aid stuff and let him use those. It took him about 15 minutes to find this thing on the bottom of 12 feet! He finally dives down and comes back up with it. He brings it over to me and it’s this little sequence from like a bathing suit or something. Literally this thing was sooooo tiny that I have no idea how he was able to get it. He was very proud of him self though. Haha

So yeah, that was my excitement for the morning. There is also this one lady Harriet, who just makes me laugh. I asked her how she was doing when she came in and she’s like “ok, I guess for an old lady.” Then awhile later she tells me how she wakes up at 5 every morning to listen to the radio and see what the weather is. This lady is like in her 70’s early 80’s and is sooo tiny and short. Like she looks like she would break. Haha Then she tells me, after I get out of here I’m going to walk the treadmill and watch Law and Order. I just laughed and said that was great she did that! Haha

Being a lifeguard is super boring as you can see and we take anything, like above, for excitement! Haha Tomorrow I’m lifeguarding again from 10:30-1 then teaching swim lessons all afternoon. It’s going to be a long day! Maybe I’ll put up a post about that too!
Thanks for reading! Love comments, so let me know what you think:)
